Mr. X is a dapper 87 year old gentleman with a very sharp mind. He is always elegantly dressed and takes pride in his appearance. He lives in three places ; Florida, New York City and Southampton. His homes while lovely clean and nicely decorated, are not large, but in each place the employee will have their own room and bathroom.

 

We are seeking live-in help not because he has an illness… rather because his limitations are simply age related.

 

While the employee must be very comfortable with an older person and some of the issues that come with age, this job is not a typical eldercare position. What we hope to find is a person who can provide housekeeping, laundering (and ironing when required), cooking, driving,  grocery shopping, in essence maintain his home, do his errands prepare his meals etc. 

 

 Since Mr. X dresses and bathes himself and spends his leisure time reading or with family and friends there are many hours of down time, plenty of opportunity to do household chores, errands, and to read and relax . In Florida and Southampton there are swimming pools and tennis courts, so a person who enjoys those benefits will be quite happy

 

He entertains at home on occasion. The employee will be required to do cooking and serving etc. for his guests (although infrequent).  He has a girlfriend and he also enjoys dining out with her and other friends so at times the employee is not required to prepare dinner and may be on their own for several hours while Mr.X is with family and friends.

 

He sometimes requires a wheel chair so strength (taking it in and out of the car) and pushing will be required.

 

Skills:

 

Speaks fluent English

Likes the wisdom (and occasional crankiness) of older folks.

Understands and is willing to deal with age related issues

Clean driving record and valid license

Good housekeeping skills. (We tend towards immaculate)

Good laundry skills to insure clothes and linens are always at their best.

Good cooking skills- simple but tasty- no dietary requirements but prefers not spicy and no fried food.

Willing to travel and live in Florida during the winter (Boynton Beach) and Southampton most of the summer (June through October) NYC is occasional (his daughters large apartment on the Upper East Side).

Caring, Loyal, Honest, Happy, Friendly  and very important.. Upbeat.

 

Mr. X is known to have a great smile and a terrific attitude for life. The right person will help him maintain that sensibility (despite his physical decline that sometimes gets him down). He is a proud man. He ran a very successful business that he built it from the ground up. He took great care of his ailing wife (she died 10 years ago from Parkinson’s) and was a quite self sufficient as a result.

 

He is a much loved man with strong family bonds and some very wonderful long-term friends. His family is dedicated to his well being and overall happiness. So, we also seek someone who will feel comfortable among Mr. X’s family and friends and someone who therefore will enjoy and appreciate that aspect of the job.
